Mobilization of Media Consumer Women’s Groups

Currently,ASMITA is executing the project entitled “Mobilization of Media Consumer Women’s Groups” with the support of WACC since June 2010. In fact, the project is the follow-up program of media literacy campaign, executed by ASMITA with WACC support in previous years. Media literacy campaign has formed media consumer women’s groups (MCWG) in the districts. It was needed to effectively mobilize these groups to achieve the long term goal of the campaign- making media more democratic, accountable and gender sensitive; and to protect and expand already achieved results. Accordingly, the project has been lunched in two districts of Nepal- Banke and Sunsari. Till the date, 8 programs have been launched in Banke and Sunsari. Most of the participants of these programs were social activists, political activists, teachers, health workers, students and home managers as well from different strata of the society including third gender, single women, conflict widows, ethnic rights activists etc. Those eight programs are as following:

National:
Trainer’s training of leadership development and facilitation on media advocacy- Dharan, Sunsari from 2067 Saun 29 to Bhadra 2 (August 14- 18, 2010)
Trainer’s training of leadership development and facilitation on media advocacy- Nepalgunj, Banke from 2067 Bhadra 19 to 23 (September 4- 8, 2010)
Training on basic news writing- Dharan, Sunsari from 2067 Kartik 27 to Mansir 1 (November 13- 17, 2010)
Training on basic news writing- Nepalgunj, Banke from 2067 Mansir 21 to 25 (December 7- 11, 2010)
Interaction between Media Consumer Women and Media Producers- on 2067 Chaitra 27 (April 10, 2011)
Interaction between Media Consumer Women and Media Producers- on 2068 Baisakh 14 (April 27, 2011)

Joint work with National Women Commission, Nepal :

 

Currently, ASMITA is jointly working with National Women Commission in different activities. Most of these are under execution. Mainly these are as given below:

Production of Radio Jingle on Talak Pratha in Maithili, Bhojpuri and Awadhi Language
Production of Television Commercial (TVC) on Recognizing the Labor of Women in Household Activities
